What Newburgh told us.

This spring, 135 Newburgh residents and families told us what they think about the city's playgrounds and what they want for the future. The survey was open to anyone, promoted through community outreach, and answered mostly on phones. Here is what they said.

Accessibility is essential

88% say accessibility for children with disabilities is essential or very important, and 79% want a playground designed for all ages and abilities together. Parents of children who are neurodivergent or who elope asked specifically for inclusive, fenced, sensory-rich design.

About this survey

Collected April through June 2026 through two open surveys on newburghplaygrounds.org: the Delano-Hitch inclusive-playground survey (118 responses) and a citywide survey (17 responses). This was an open community survey, so the results describe the people who responded rather than a statistically representative sample of the city. Totals may not add to 100% because of rounding, and questions that allow more than one answer can add to more than 100%. All results shown here are anonymous and aggregated.
