About · Sobre nosotros

A neighborhood plan for every Newburgh playground.

Newburgh Plays is a resident-led, volunteer-run campaign to repair, rebuild, and reimagine every playground in the City of Newburgh, NY. We are parents, neighbors, faith leaders, and small business owners who got tired of waiting and decided to organize.

Who we are

The campaign began in 2025 around the empty 26.7 acres at Delano-Hitch Park, where two playgrounds used to stand. We have grown into a citywide effort that touches every neighborhood park: Audrey Carey, Hasbrouck Street, Tyrone Crabb, Xavier Lunan, and Delano-Hitch.

We are not a 501(c)(3): we partner with established Newburgh nonprofits when the work needs a fiscal sponsor or a formal letter of support. The community page lists the partners and the working group.

What we do

  • Run citywide and per-park surveys so the plan is rooted in what families actually want.
  • Coordinate volunteer cleanups, build days, and playgroups at every park.
  • Draft, review, and submit grant applications with the City of Newburgh, including the $2.5M NY PLAYS application for Delano-Hitch.
  • Track playground issues, route them to the City's Department of Public Works, and publish the log.

How it is funded

State grants (NY PLAYS, EPF, RZ), federal CDBG funds, and small donations from neighbors who can pitch in. The campaign team takes no salary; every dollar goes to the parks.
