TYRONE CRABB · 210 GRAND STREET, NEWBURGH, NY 12550
Tyrone Crabb Park
Parque Tyrone Crabb
Three quarters of an acre on Grand Street. A memorial to Tyrone Crabb, the Newburgh teacher and mayor-elect who died in 1999.
Assessment · Evaluación
Tyrone Crabb Park is a memorial. Tyrone Crabb was a Newburgh teacher, an Orange County mental health counselor, chair of the Newburgh Housing Authority, a city councilman, and was elected Mayor of Newburgh in November 1999. He died of a heart attack days before taking office. The park named for him should be held to that standard.
Scenic Hudson rates Tyrone Crabb “Renew”. At 0.73 acres, this park has more room to work with than the other neighborhood playgrounds. The composite play structure is dated. The fall zones are mostly engineered wood fiber, which is harder to keep accessible than poured-in-place rubber. The City added a splash pad in 2023, which is an asset to integrate. A real Renew here means added rope-based and inclusive play equipment alongside the existing composite structure, full PIP rubber surfacing, the splash pad kept and tied into the layout, and caregiver seating with shade.
